The spacious old Brueckner residence at Mozart St no 2 Windhoek has been architecturally remodeled in the signature style of legendary Namibian architect Leon Barnard to house one of Namibia’s freshest and most exciting initiatives: the Namibian Institute of Culinary Education. nice is a chef finishing school that targets professionals from the Namibian culinary industry who wish to polish their skills and further their own careers. Students are being trained in the masteries of cooking by German head chef Ralf Herrgott, who is also the manager of the nice restaurant and bar. The results of the school manifest directly in the nice restaurant and bar as the two facilities serve as an active training ground for the students in terms of practicing their skills in the culinary arts, service and food and beverage management. The nice restaurant and bar are Windhoek’s hippest and most sophisticated new address, where culinary elegance and great interiors combine to evoke an atmosphere that is unparalleled in Namibia’s capital. The nice building features a unique style where modern elements cleverly complement the charm of the traditional architecture. The nice bar with its subtle boutique atmosphere of modern, but yet stylish and comfortable proportions offers an urban feel reminiscent of cities like London or New York. Complementing a wide selection of the finest South African handpicked wines, the nice bar offers a delicious pub grub menu, which is not easy to pass by. The bar is a separate entity to the restaurant and is individually branded as a place to visit even without having dinner at the nice restaurant. The restaurant facilities encompass a selection of private dining rooms, stylish lounges and courtyards. The nice restaurant has the capacity of 150 seats in total, whereby guests are invited to spread out over the generous dimensions of the property. In summer up to fifty guests can be accommodated outside. Each dining room has its own character inviting a diversity of experience and promoting repeat visits. Menus at nice sport an international cuisine, infusing Namibian classics such as exquisite game dishes with Asian or Italian notes. Although the nice culinary experience can be deemed fusion food with an experimental touch, traditional dishes are being offered to those with a more classical taste. Ideal for a romantic twosomes, family dinners, big functions and conferencing alike, the facilities at nice have been designed to cater for all your business as well as social needs. nice infrastructure As the design of the nice restaurant and bar has evolved around the concept of the chef finishing school, the kitchen is the visible heart of the building. Its elaborate and generous dimensions offer sufficient space for the training of students, while guests are invited to observe the cooking process through the big glass-front. Underneath the reception and kitchen area are elaborate cellars which house a spacious wine cellar, guest toilets, a number of storerooms, pantry and staff bathrooms. A lecture room, as well as an office form part of the kitchen complex and provide the infrastructure for the school. The lecture room can also be rented for private functions and presentations. At the back of the building there is a separate function room, which has a seating capacity of about 50 people. It has its own courtyard and verandah and is therefore ideally for functions, conferences, weddings and other private events. A fully equipped multi-media kit is available to meet our customer’s technical needs (e.g. internet, music system, projector etc.). nice future Once the restaurant is running smoothly, the service range will be extended to ‘rent-a-chef’ (home service) and cooking classes for the public.
